The branch is working with the YWCA to teach a series of financial literacy classes to middle school girls. We’re doing two hours each on
- Wants vs. needs
- Savvy shopping
- Earning money
Sue Stock, the retail guru at the Raleigh News and Observer, has posted about this on her blog, Taking Stock, that offers tips on shopping and other retail news. If you have comments on what we should be discussing with the students, please post there.
If you’d like to help with this project that runs from Feb. 13 through March 19 and may be repeated, please contact info@rwc.aauwnc.org.

In honor of Darwin’s birthday, the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center is hosting a symposium that takes us back to the beginning. This interdisciplinary event brings together researchers in philosophy, chemistry, biology and astrobiology to address our current understanding of basic questions about life. What is life? Where did it come from and where can it be found? How can life forms unlike our own be identified?
February 8, 2008
8:00 - 6:30
Sigma Xi Headquarters, RTP, NC
The event is free and open to the public, but spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.
