Board of Education Survey

Posted in Branch News at 6:26 pm by nes

As previously announced, the September 18 meeting of the AAUW Raleigh/Wake County Branch will concentrate on information for the upcoming Board of Education election. To prepare for this meeting, a few of us in the branch worked with the Wake County League of Women Voters and sent a survey to all of the candidates.

That survey went out in USMail last week. It is due back to us on September 10. Because the Board of Elections did not provide us with e-mail addresses for the candidates, we said that the electronic version of the survey would be posted here:

Note that the MS Word version limits responses by the number of characters rather than the number of words. It is permissable to create your own MS Word version of the form, but note that your responses will be truncated if you exceed the word/character limit.

Thanks to the candidates for their thoughtful answers to the questions which will be posted here in mid-September.

More information about the October 9 election.

Science House Girls Collaborative Kickoff Meeting

Posted in Events at 5:54 pm by nes

The National Girls Collaborative Project, www.pugetsoundcenter.org/ngcp/ to increase the capacity and broaden the impact of programs to create gender equity in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), has regional centers across the country. The local lead organization is the Science House at NC State University. They are planning a kickoff meeting for the project on September 18.

AAUW members across the country are acting as Regional Liaisons for the National Girls Collaborative Project. These Regional Liaisons help the people involved in the NGCP to make connections — to one another, to resources on gender equity, and to AAUW. For more information on the AAUW/NGCP connection, see www.aauw.org/education/ngcp/.

Please mark your calendars for the kickoff meeting, and check www.science-house.org/ngcp/ for updates.
