AAUW presence at Wake County Women’s Agenda Assembly

Posted in Branch News at 11:40 am by nes

AAUW at Wake County Women's Agenda Assembly

The branch was a co-sponsor of the October 28 Wake County Women’s Agenda Assembly. This biennial event drew more than 60 women from the community to discuss public policy issues that affect their lives and issues that are apt to appear on the legislative agenda during 2007-2008. All were urged to plan to attend the followup meeting — Women’s Advocacy Day — at the General Assembly next March.

For more information on the event see www.ncwu.org and www.wakewaa2006.org.

The 125th Anniversary Banner was on loan from the Association, and had been displayed on Oct. 20 at the NC Conference for Women and on Oct. 21-22 at the AAUW NC Fall Meeting (and the Iredell County Women’s Agenda Asssembly).

Election information

Posted in Branch News at 10:55 am by nes

Early voting for the November 7 election has started. Many sites around the county will be open starting next weekend through Saturday, November 4. See www.wakegov.com/elections/1stopvoting/default.htm for details.

The Board of Elections in downtown Raleigh will also be open this week during the day. Map and hours.

You should have received information on the judicial candidates in the mail. That and other nonpartisan voter guides are available at www.ncvoterguide.org.

The News and Observer’s voter guide (usually published the weekend before the election) is, due to early voting, available online at www.newsobserver.com (with info on counties other than Wake, too).

This is, of course, an important election - a couple of AAUW notes:

  • Please be sure to vote and consider carefully the school bond’s effect on the future of Wake County schools.
  • It was announced at the Statesville AAUW NC meeting that, though we expect you all to be informed voters in every election, it is particularly important in this year’s Supreme Court election to read information on all the candidates and not depend on gender or party to be a “short cut” recommendation on the candidates.
