The Behavior and Misbehavior of Dogs

Humans have lived with dogs for thousands of years and have selectively bred them to work, live, and play with us. When polled, most dog owners consider their pets members of their family; however, in surveys, 45-90% of dog owners report behavior problems with their dogs. Why? Is this a “failure to communicate?” We will discuss dog behavior, and some of the reasons why we become frustrated with our canine companions (and why they become frustrated with us!).

We will meet on Tuesday October 7th at 6:30 PM in the private dining room at Independence Village. This is the independent living center where Gloria Blanton, one of our long term members resides.

The topic for the meeting is a facilitated discussion on Women, the Media and Politics. Treka Spraggins, one of our members, will serve as our facilitator. So, watch the news this week and come prepared to discuss what you have observed. We will start the meeting with a few minutes for social interaction and some snacks and then move into the discussion. Please come and bring a friend to join us.

Independence Village is located behind Old Raleigh Shopping Center which is at the intersection of Edwards Mill Rd and Duraleigh Rd. You turn at Cariboo Coffee if you are on Duraleigh and Independence Village will be on your left. If you come up Edwards Mill from Crabtree, turn right just before the shopping center–as if you were going to Johnson’s Jewelers. Turn right at the stop sign, and Independence Vilage will be on your left.

The Irregardless Café, 901 West Morgan Street, Raleigh, 833-8898

Entomophagy, or the practice of eating insects for food, is a topic that is objectionable to many. Still, eating our six-legged friends may be a viable way to feed hundreds of millions of people while at the same time lowering humanity’s impact on the environment. Join us to learn about arthropods as food — and if you want, even sample a few on your own!
