Summary of 2007-2008
Major projects
- Collaboration with the Wake County League of Women Voters to publish a candidate’s survey for the Board of Education election.
- Progress on the next edition of the Interpreters Directory, a service to the community that is still valued by the City of Raleigh who publishes it.
- A successful Holiday Reception to raise funds for the Educational Foundation and to meet several international scholars supported by AAUW and going to school in North Carolina.
- Co-sponsoring a program at NCCU for female law students and faculty on the importance of Title IX and equity in university hiring and pay scales.
- Working with the YWCA to present a six part seminar on Financial Literacy for middle school girls who attend the Y’s after school program at Ligon Middle School and partnering with the Y for a repeat of our “Mom’s Turn to Learn” project from February, 2007.
- Our annual author’s brunch at Peace College featuring Sarah Shaber, a local mystery author. Funds from the brunch went to support both the Educational Foundation and the Legal Advocacy Fund.
- We also sent a delegation to the AAUW state convention and Sheila Bassoppo-Moyo was elected as State Membership chair.

- AAUW Raleigh/Wake County Branch kickoff meeting.
6:30 - 8:30. Potluck supper. - Focus on the October 9 Board of Education election and a presentation by Stan Norwalk of WakeUP Wake County. More details.

- Tuesday, October 30
- NC Conference for Women, Charlotte
- This state-wide event draws world-class speakers and hosts excellent workshops. AAUW North Carolina will have a booth to publicize the efforts of the Association and the Foundation.

6:30 - 8:30, Meredith College Jones Chapel Common Room - November 3-4
- International Festival of Raleigh, State Fairgrounds. We recruited volunteers for the Interepreters Directory.

- Educational Foundation Fellows’ Reception.
An annual gathering to hear from those in the area who are recipients of AAUW Educational Foundation fellowships and awards.

- AAUW NC 2008 Convention, Greensboro. Branch member Sheila Bassoppo-Moyo was elected AAUW NC membership vice president, joining branch members Nancy Shoemaker and Etta Alston (who will be past-president and program vp, respectively) on the AAUW NC exec committee. Sheila replaces branch member Barbara White in the membership position.
