Educational Foundation Fellows Reception

Join us for our annual AAUW Educational Foundation Fellows’ Reception, one of the highlights of the AAUW year.

American FellowLisa Lowe - Lisa L. Lowe, Ph.D., Physics, North Carolina State University
Topics in Numerical Relativity: Initial Data With Parallel Adaptive Mesh Refinement Multigrid; Investigating the Stability Properties of the Einstein Equations Using Spectral Methods
Lisa Lowe examines the numerical modeling of black holes and curved space. She also enjoys teaching and organizing astronomy outreach events, including a program in which female scientists help Junior Girl Scouts earn their astronomy badges. She plans to obtain a faculty position at a research university and continue urging young women to pursue science.

American Fellow, Ariana Sutton-GrierAriana E. Sutton-Grier, Ph.D., Ecology, Duke University
The Role of Plant Functional Diversity and Soil Amendments in Regulating Ecosystem Function and Biogeochemistry in Restored Wetlands in the Piedmont of North Carolina
Ariana Sutton-Grier examines how wetland restoration strategies influence the development of wetland ecosystems and their ability to perform key ecosystem functions. Her work has important, practical implications for improving water quality and future wetland restoration projects. She plans to become a professor.

International Fellow Dari Jigjidsuren, Mongolia, Ph.D., Social work, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
School Enrollment and Academic Success of Children Not Enrolled in Preschool Education in Mongolia
Dari Jigjidsuren’s research interests include domestic violence, marginalized women and children, and gender issues in education. She believes that a doctorate will enable her contribute to the development of gender-sensitive policies in education.
